PCM offers a wide variety of low-cost, high-quality, multimedia workshops that enable community members to produce programs and videos for television and the web using existing and emerging technologies. We strive to create an inclusive and safe environment for all members of the community; youth, adults, nonprofits and community-based organizations.
Workshop participants learn HD studio production in our state-of-the-art television studios; gain field production experience using professional HD cameras, LED lighting, and field audio equipment; work collaboratively or independently to edit their programs using our Final Cut Pro X editing laptops; and distribute their videos locally on PCM's television channels and globally on the web.
Dream it! You bring the idea, we can help you realize it.
At PCM you can create what you want whether big or small. A story about your best friend, a day at the dog park, music videos, documentaries, a weekly TV series, animations, experimental videos, entertainment or narrative shorts. What do you want to create? The sky is the limit!
Get Certified & Checkout Equipment
Some of PCM production workshops grant an equipment "certification" to participants once completed. These certifications allow PCM producers to checkout equipment for the purpose of creating programming for PCM's channels. The certifications are listed in the workshop description.
Note: You don't need to attend a workshop to submit programs to our channels! If you and your friends already produce videos with your own equipment and you would like to submit them for channel playback on television, attend a PCM Info Session to learn how!
Distribution Near and Far
We can help you post your videos on social media outlets such as YouTube and Vimeo, air your show on our local cable channels (11, 22 and 23) or partner with community media centers across the country.
The Bob Hedlund Memorial Scholarship Fund Contribute to the BHSF
The Bob Hedlund Memorial Scholarship Fund offers class fees at reduced rates or at no charge to participants that demonstrate financial need. The scholarships are funded by donations that come from independent producers, viewers, community supporters, and by Portland Community Media. The number of scholarships offered is based on the availability of funds. You can download the application or you may stop by during our public hours of operation and pick-up an application. Completed applications may be emailed to Hannah Bohart or dropped off at PCM as well. Applications must be submitted 2-3 weeks prior to the class you wish to attend.
